Music Review: Samantha Jewel bands – The Greatest Gift
It is always great to find a woman who not only knows how to sing but also can sing gracefully. That is what makes this particular video so amazing. There are some very professional musicians backing up singer, actress and author, Sarah Michelle Gellar as she performs her original song “Sweater Girl.”
I am not sure why many music videos do not feature an artist at the microphone. They often times will have one man in the front and the other two or three women in the back. This is a very common thing that you do not see too often. The video for “Sweater Girl” has a very awesome female singer with a great voice. It is also one of the very few videos out there that feature the entire back group doing most of the work.
The first few seconds of the video is when the song starts to play. The lead singer sings the whole song with the words coming from her own lips. The music is upbeat and has a good beat. The song’s lyrics are great and the arrangements of the instruments match the song quite well. There is also some nice choreography done in the video.
The second verse in the video has the band playing a couple of their hit songs. This is a nice touch and also shows just how versatile the band members really are. These songs “Don’t Take Me Alive” and “Haitian” have been covered by countless groups. It is great to see them performing these songs with a full band and a good sound to go along with it.
The video was shot by director Rob Reiner, who is known for his movies. He did a great job of filming this video. It is one of my favorites on his catalog.
You can buy the complete video on DVD right now and I highly recommend it. The first half or so is slow and the videos gets slower as it goes on. But overall this is a great watch and something you will really get into. There are some really great visual moments as well. Overall I give the movie a four stars and recommend you watch it.
Fans of this band will enjoy this DVD. People that only know the original band will probably find this a little confusing. For those not into that kind of stuff, I suggest you stay away from this one. But if you are a fan of the original and the music is what you’re looking for, I would recommend giving this a try.
Another band that has released an album titled “Saman Jewel” is Blossoms of the Sun. They are from Spain and they like to play some of the older stuff from when they were just starting out. There is even a section on this band’s site dedicated to older songs. Of course, their music is modern and up to date. You can definitely learn something from this band.
